side by side

The above image is a photo taken at Lake Union.
The waves reminded me of Vija Celmin's Untitled
drawing of water. Her image is below.

a poem

Let us stop our hem-hawing
hee-hawing
hoo-hahing

And let us instead
assemble "likes"
and "umms"
and "anyways"
into bumbling, run-on
unselfconscious
unpretentious sentences--

Sentences that help people
drop their shoulders
and breath a sigh of relief
from endless posturing

We'll spark a change and others will join us

Instead of hall passes,
we teachers will hand out respite passes
Permission for others to escape
from homeroom brilliance

We'll let them meander through halls,
remembering (if only for a moment)
that they need not be the smartest
the most refined
or the most clever
to be in our class

presentation: 10 out of 10

No, this is not a Better Homes & Gardens stock photo.
This cake currently exists on a plate in my kitchen.
Props to Amy and Karlie for making such a beautiful, birthday creation for Brenna.

Dang!

Dang! This stuff is good!

summer fare

The color of the containers (I'll be saving them) next to the color of blueberries is just too good. Who knew that I could love a carton of blueberries so much?!

soft + sturdy

shapes and lighting

I took this photo through a screen door. I didn't want to lose the moment. Edward Hopper's People in the Sun was happening in my backyard.

What we'll do

We'll keep thinking big.

We'll not only keep hoping-hoping-hoping, we'll quit wishing away time. We'll hatch escape plans and shake up our routines. We'll hold out for a good thing.

And we'll stop incessantly checking our email--we'll silence our cell phones and shut our computers. Instead, we'll take long walks and breathe in the lilacs. We'll tell stories. We'll dance and grow strong with push-ups. We'll trade sucking in our stomachs for big, belly laughs.

We'll broadcast wildflower seeds and eat crunchy apples. And we'll keep maturing. We'll resist turning disappointment into tragedy. We'll exercise curiosity, ask people questions and forgive them when they don't ask us.

That's what we'll do.

I'm back to cooking and walking and reading and blogging.
Winter was hard but spring has come.

Organization!

The dinky canvas divider in my closet collapsed (for good) this week. However, I found a sturdy set of shelves at a used furniture store for CHEAP! I may repaint them once it warms up. As for now, I'm quite pleased with my newly organized closet.

homemade

I made this pillow for my sister for her birthday.
Pom-poms make anything better.

Huh?

Until this little tune snuck out from my subconscious and into my whistling today, I had completely forgotten that I preformed this song (accompanied with dance moves) for my fifth grade talent show. Whoa.

woodland creature pencils

I love this bundle of pencils. However, I know that my child self would have absolutely looooovvved them. I probably would have preserved them in some special chest, only to let them see the light of day every once and awhile when I needed to hold something special.
